In the last year, I saw Van Gogh’s Bedroom at Arles twice. Once when it traveled to Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts and again at its home in the Art Institute of Chicago. I was intrigued by the palette of the work and thought it would be fun to play with those colors. It was also an adventure in color mixing!
I had prepped a 12×12 panel and as I mixed colors I started testing them on the panel. Without much intention, I started to lay out blops of wax in the rough design of Van Gogh’s painting. When I finished playing with blops, I had this:

Again without much intention, I took my torch to it. Vigorously. It was fun! I expected total destruction, but I like the result. Sorry, Vincent.
